Two-alarm Salem blaze kills one

A 53-year-old man was killed early Sunday morning after a fire engulfed a Salem home, according to Salem Fire Department.

The victim was found on the second floor of 5 Beacon St., a three-story wood structure, according to the fire department. There were no working fire alarms on the second floor where the fire broke out, according to fire officials who are still investigating.

The first floor tenant was able to escape the fire and is currently being assisted by the Red Cross said Cat Powers, director of communications at the American Red Cross of Eastern Massachusetts.

Firefighters from Danvers, Swampscott, Lynnfield, Nahant and Wenham all helped put out the fire at 3:30 a.m.

The victim’s identity has not been released.
