After pitching in for the Archdiocese of Boston’s annual Parish Service Week today, Cardinal Sean O’Malley visited the class of a Roxbury boy who was killed in a car crash last week.

O’Malley and other church officials had already planned to spend the day landscaping, cleaning, and helping with general repairs at St. Patrick Parish in Roxbury before one of the students at St. Patrick School, 12-year-old Barrington “Barry” Brinson, was struck and killed by a van in Allston Thursday, said Terry Donilon, a spokesman for the Archdiocese.

The cardinal “wanted to spend some time with the class, with the school and see how they were doing,” Donilon said. “He just felt that we were there, so we should pay a visit.”
