Warm front to bring showers this afternoon; Thursday will be a beaut
After another chilly morning, a warm front is on its way, bringing showers this afternoon and highs approaching 80 Thursday, the National Weather Service said.
This morning’s lows made it feel more like mid-February than May. Worthington and Springfield bottomed out at 28 degrees, flanked by Orange at 29 degrees, Bedford at 31, and Beverly at 34, meteorologist Bill Simpson said. Boston was balmy by comparison, dipping to 44 degrees.
Though the temperatures were below freezing, widespread frost wasn’t a concern, thanks to relatively low dewpoints. There wasn’t enough moisture to coalesce on the surfaces and create frost, Simpson said.
Temperatures will climb into the lower 60s as scattered showers spread from west to east beginning this afternoon and lasting through the overnight. There could be a few rumbles of thunder west of Interstate 495, Simpson said. Expect the showers to dry up by the morning’s commute.
Thursday is shaping up to be the nicest day of the week, with clear skies, highs set to hit 77 in Boston, and a breeze becoming gusty at times.
Friday will help end the week on a high note, with sunny skies, warmer than normal temperatures in the low 70s, and a light wind, forecasters said.
Temperatures will level out at about the normal high, 65 degrees, over the weekend in Boston, Simpson said. Skies will be mostly sunny Saturday with a high of 68 degrees and mostly cloudy Sunday at 62 degrees.
Things will warm up again Monday and Tuesday as the warm front has its last hurrah. Showers are possible Tuesday afternoon ahead of a cold front working its way through the region, Simpson said.Lauren Dezenski can be reached at firstname.lastname@example.org. Follow her on Twitter @LaurenDezenski.
