Two people who bought lottery tickets in Massachusetts are millionaires, but who they are is still a mystery.
Though no one won last night’s Powerball jackpot, two individuals who purchased Powerball tickets at Pittsfield and Andover convenience stores have won the game’s second-tier prize of $1 million, the Massachusetts Lottery said.
A horde of other hopefuls nationwide were not so lucky, but surging sales boosted the jackpot for the upcoming weekend drawing to $550 million, up from $360 million last night.
The winning tickets matched the first five numbers: 2, 11, 26, 34, and 41, but missed the Powerball, which would have kicked their prizes up from $1 million to $360 million. The two tickets were purchased at Pittsfield’s A Mart on 524 North St., and the other from Andover’s West Andover Mobil Gas Station at 139 River Rd., the Lottery said.
The two ticketholders have yet to come forward and claim their prizes, redeemable either as a smaller lump sum or a 30-year annuity, from the lottery’s Braintree office, the Lottery said.
