Police say man fired at mother and two daughters in Peabody before apparently shooting self
A man who allegedly shot at a mother and her two daughters while they sat in a car on Monson Drive in Peabody was later found inside a nearby house dead from an apparent self-inflicted gunshot wound, according to Peabody police.
After the shooting, the man barricaded himself a nearby house and apparently shot himself, Peabody police said.
The mother and her 12- and 18-year old daughters were uninjured in the shooting, although several bullets struck their vehicle, Peabody police said in a statement.
Police officers and a SWAT team responded to the mother’s 911 call around 7:15 p.m. Sunday and set up a perimeter around a house on Monson Dr., where they believed the shooter had gone, the statement said.
Police evacuated several nearby homes while the SWAT team spent several tense moments trying to establish communication with the man, the statement said.
After attempts to make contact were unsuccessful, the SWAT team deployed a robot with a camera that was able to see a man inside the house who appeared to have shot himself, the statement said.
The cause of death has not been confirmed, pending further investigation, and the name of the alleged shooter has not been released.Todd Feathers can be reached at firstname.lastname@example.org. Follow him on Twitter @ToddFeathers.
