Lovely week will end with rain; skies to clear again on Sunday
Enjoy the lovely weather while it lasts — the week will end in a washout, with showers sticking around through Saturday, the National Weather Service said.
Ahead of the rain, expect another gorgeous, sunny day today with highs in the low 70s along the coast and mid-70s inland, meteorologist Charlie Foley said. It’ll be another chilly night tonight with lows near 50, though temperatures should again rebound into the 70s on Thursday.
Conditions Thursday should be a near carbon copy of today, though things will change in the evening once clouds roll in. By daybreak Friday, there’ll be a 50 percent chance of rain, thanks to a tropical storm in the Gulf of Mexico sending a plume of moisture up the Atlantic coast, Foley said. It’ll be a cold day, too, with highs only in the mid-60s. Showers will become more widespread as the day progresses — and not let up until Saturday evening.
“It’s safe to say we’ll have a general soaking of heavy rain with localized heavy downpours,” Foley said.
It’s still too soon to pinpoint who will see the most rain in southern New England, but meteorologists are thinking somewhere between 1 and 3 inches will fall, with higher amounts possible. Flooding is possible and likely, Foley said.
The soaking will be good for the Bay State, now roughly 3 inches below the average rainfall for the year. Plus, for all those suffering from allergies, the rain will rinse the pollen from the atmosphere, Foley said.
The wet weather will move out to sea Saturday night, leaving the last day of the weekend pleasant, sunny and dry, with highs in the mid-70s.Lauren Dezenski can be reached at email@example.com. Follow her on Twitter @LaurenDezenski.
