Watertown police arrest man after two-hour standoff

A man was arrested Saturday afternoon after barricading himself in a Watertown home for more than two hours, forcing police to evacuate surrounding residences, according to Watertown Police Lieutenant James O’Connor.

The man, whom O’Connor did not identify, was charged with multiple counts of assault and battery with a dangerous weapon. O’Connor declined to say what that weapon was or who was assaulted, but said there were no injuries and no hostage.

Watertown Police, the North Eastern Massachusetts Law Enforcement Council SWAT team, and area police departments all responded to the 55 Carroll St. home on Saturday afternoon; the incident was resolved peacefully just after 5 p.m.
