53-year-old New Bedford woman killed in Mattapoisett van rollover
A 53-year-old New Bedford woman was killed Sunday after the van she was riding in with seven other people crashed in a single-car rollover on Interstate 195 in Mattapoisett, according to the Massachusetts State Police.
Jeanett Reed, a passenger in the 1995 Dodge Caravan, was pronounced dead by authorities following the crash, which happened on I-195 East near Exit 19 around 12:30 p.m. Police say the van’s driver, a 40-year-old woman from Florida, was taken by helicopter to Rhode Island Hospital in Providence.
The conditions of the van’s other occupants, which included a 13-year-old and 17-year-old, were not released. However, State Police said three people were initially trapped inside the van after the crash.
Other van occupants ranged in age from 31 to 75, and lived in either New Bedford or Fall River, authorities said.
State Police said policy prohibits them from releasing the relationships of the occupants.
The cause of the crash is under investigation. No charges have been filed at this time.Globe Correspondent Jeff Fish contributed to this report. Jaclyn Reiss can be reached by email at email@example.com.
