Man in 30s killed in gunfight while driving in Mattapan this afternoon

A man in his 30s who was engaged in a gunfight while driving this afternoon in Mattapan was fatally shot, according to police.

Witnesses reported seeing the man exchanging fire with another vehicle, said Officer Neva Coakley, a Boston police spokeswoman. The victim, whose name was not released, then crashed into a parked car, Coakley said.

At about 12:49 p.m., officers responded to the area of 88 Wellington Hill St. and found the man suffering from gunshot wounds, according to the Boston Police website. The man was pronounced dead at the scene, which is in a heavily residential area.

Police are looking for a light green compact SUV with partial Mass plate 875, according to the statement.
