A man who was shot this afternoon in Springfield has died, according to Springfield police officials.
Captain Cheryl Clapprood said that police responded to the area of 14 Montcalm St. at 5:20 p.m., where they found a man suffering from a gunshot wound. Clapprood said several shots were fired during the incident, and the man was shot at least once.
The victim was taken to Baystate Medical Center in Springfield, she said. The State police crime scene unit also responded to the scene.
Clapprood said police found several shell casings on the ground, and that they were “canvassing the area for any witnesses.”
The incident is under investigation by the Springfield police detective bureau. Police are withholding the name of the victim until his family members are notified.
