Nine men are to be arraigned in Middlesex Superior Court today in connection with a drug trafficking operation that allegedly distributed more than $1 million in marijuana and amassed an arsenal of unlicensed guns, prosecutors said.
In March, police arrested seven men who allegedly operated a drug trafficking ring, which they called the Maplewood Organization, for allegedly supplying marijuana by the pound out of Malden, Middlesex District Attorney Marian T. Ryan’s office said in a statement. Subsequent investigations led police to arrest four more men, including a California man who allegedly supplied the organization with marijuana.
Over several months, police traced packages of marijuana to several homes where members of the organization leved, according to Ryan’s office. Search warrants executed at the houses revealed unlicensed guns and ammunition in addition to marijuana.
The 11 men arrested all pleaded not guilty at their original arraignments in district court. One has already been arraigned; the California man is to be arraigned and extradited to Massachusetts, prosecutors said.
