Two men shot in Dorchester Saturday night; one was customer in store, according to owner

One of two men shot on Harvard Street in Dorchester Saturday night was a customer in a liquor store, hit by an errant bullet, said Doug Rodman, whose wife’s family owns the store.

The bullet that went through the window of Gigi’s Liquors, 144 Harvard St., pierced a customer’s arm, Rodman said.

The customer was shaken, but “he was not seriously hurt,” he said.

Police, who responded to a radio call reporting a shooting at about 10:30 p.m., said they found one victim on the street outside the store and one inside.

Both victims were taken to Boston Medical Center and are expected to survive, police said in a statement.

No arrests had been made as of early this afternoon, said Officer Katherine Shea, a police spokeswoman.

“It’s certainly not the first shooting in the neighborhood, and it won’t be the last shooting in the neighborhood,” Rodman said Sunday.

Boston police recorded 120 shootings between Jan. 1 and June 24, the most recently available data.

Twenty-two people were fatally shot during the same time period this year, compared with 12 homicides with a firearm during the same time last year.

Police have made 202 arrests on firearm-related charges since Jan. 1, more than the 158 recorded during the same period last year, according to Boston Police Department data.
