Former New England Patriots star Aaron Hernandez, who is charged with murder, appears to be holding a pistol in grainy photos included among documents from his case that were released today in Attleboro District Court.
The photos, included in an affidavit supporting an arrest warrant for Hernandez, appear to show Hernandez holding a pistol by the barrel while walking through a home.
Prosecutors have previously alleged that Hernandez was captured by his own home’s surveillance cameras carrying a gun after the slaying of Odin Lloyd of Dorchester. Hernandez is facing a murder charge in the June 17 killing of Lloyd at an industrial park in North Attleborough, not far from Hernandez’s home.
Attleboro District Court Judge Daniel O’Shea on Wednesday granted a request by several media outlets, including The Boston Globe, for access to records in the Hernandez case.
The outlets sought access to reports detailing the arrest of Hernandez and his friend Ernest Wallace, who is charged with being an accessory after the fact of murder. Wallace has pleaded not guilty to all charges and is being held without bail.
Prosecutors say Hernandez, Wallace and a third man, Carlos Ortiz, were in the car with Lloyd as he was driven from Boston to North Attleborough, where Hernandez murdered him. Ortiz has been charged with unlawful possession of a firearm and is being held without bail.
Investigators believe Hernandez shot Lloyd because he was worried Lloyd had information about a double homicide in which Hernandez may have been involved, law enforcement officials have told the Globe.
The Globe reported earlier this week that a Suffolk grand jury is mulling charges against Hernandez in the slaying of the two men last July, according to two law enforcement officials briefed on the investigation.
