A South Barre man was killed and his wife seriously injured Saturday night after a sport utility vehicle struck the motorcycle they were riding in Spencer, police said. Thomas J. Mansfield, 58, was driving his Harley Davidson with his wife, Jane, 54, when they were hit by a Ford Flex near the intersection of Smithville and Meadow roads around 11 p.m., according to a statement from the Spencer police. Police identified the driver as Marc J. Pillsbury, 41, of North Grafton. Thomas Mansfield was transported to Saint Vincent Hospital in Worcester, where he was pronounced dead. His wife was taken to UMass Memorial Medical Center, where she was being treated for serious injuries. Pillsbury was taken to Saint Vincent Hospital for minor injuries, police said. The accident was still under investigation and no charges had been filed, according to police.
