An armed man robbed a Dunkin’ Donuts in Norwood, continuing a trend of robberies at various Dunkin’ Donuts locations across the region, police said.
“He entered the store, brandishing a gun, and he ordered the employee to give up the money,” said Officer Kevin Grasso, a Norwood police spokesman. No injuries were reported from the robbery, police said.
Police received a report of the robbery at about 8:42 p.m. Thursday, at 1202 Boston-Providence Highway (Route 1). Canton police were called to assist with a K-9 unit to track the robber, but the suspect couldn’t be found, Grasso said.
The robbery came after other Dunkin’ Donuts shops were held up this year in Canton, Norwood, Newton, Norton, Walpole, Westwood, and Boston, said Glen Piro, a Canton detective.
“We believe ours was the first in this series,” said Walpole Deputy Chief John Carmichael. “From there, there have been a series of armed robberies in the area.” The Dunkin’ Donuts in Walpole was robbed by a male suspect on June 15, Carmichael said.
Police departments from the communities where the robberies happened are working together to solve the case, police said.
“We are fairly certain it’s been a male individual every time,” Piro said. Video surveillance has caught images of the robber at various locations, though he is always masked, making it hard to confirm if the same individual has held up all the locations, police said.
Dunkin’ Donuts is actively helping police in tracking down the robber, said company spokeswoman Jessica Gioglio.
“We are working with our franchisee, who is supporting the efforts of the local authorities,” Gioglio said.
The suspect in Thursday’s Norwood robbery is described as a Hispanic male with a thin build and dark, buzz-cut hair. He possibly had a silver ball piercing over his left eye, police said.
For most of the robberies, including Thursday’s stickup in Norwood, the suspect has fled on foot, police said.
“We’re not sure what his next mode of transportation is” after he runs away, Grasso said.Jasper can be reached at email@example.com or on Twitter @Jasper_Craven
