Showers, thunderstorms could arrive this evening; then weather will turn nice

Showers and thunderstorms could roll through Massachusetts this evening, and quick downpours are possible in some areas, the National Weather Service says.

“Some showers and thunderstorms are moving across central New York and those could reach us later on,” said weather service meteorologist Joe Dellicarpini, but he said it didn’t appear that “widespread, heavy rain” was likely.

The state will begin to dry out later tonight, ushering in some nice summer weather, he said.

“It’s looking to be pretty humid tomorrow morning, but things will be drying out through the day,” said weather service meteorologist Rebecca Gould.

Wednesday will see a return to pleasant conditions, which will last into early next week. Wednesday will be mostly sunny with a high near 78 degrees. A strong west wind could develop in the Boston area, producing gusts as high as 29 miles per hour. Temperatures will dip into the 50s overnight, but should shoot up near 80 Thursday.

Thursday will stay sunny and clear, a pattern that continues until at least Monday. Dew points could rise slightly later in the week, but shouldn’t rise above 60. High temperatures shouldn’t waver much from 80 degrees every day starting Wednesday, and rain is highly unlikely.

“No one day is better or worse at this point,” Gould said. “It just looks like a great week.”
