Man stabbed in Tewksbury motel; suspect due in Lowell District Court today

A man remains in critical condition after he was stabbed at a Motel 6 in Tewksbury at about 12:30 a.m. today, forcing a lockdown of the immediate area by Tewksbury police.

The suspect in the stabbing, Cesar Abad of 95 Main St. in Tewksbury, is being charged with attempted murder and assault and battery with a dangerous weapon. Abad, 36, may face more charges, police said.

Preliminary investigation suggests Abad knew the stabbing victim, police said. Abad was a resident of the Motel 6, living in apartment 118.

Abad will be arraigned at Lowell District Court this morning.

The Motel 6 on Main Street is a short distance from Interstate 495.
