Lowell man in critical condition after Boxborough crash involving tractor trailer
A 30-year-old Lowell man is in critical condition after he was ejected from his car during a crash involving a tractor trailer on Interstate 495 in Boxborough this morning, according to a State Police statement.
The man, who was not identified, was driving in the northbound lane of the interstate shortly before 7 a.m. when his Toyota Corolla “made contact” with a tractor trailer and flipped over, according to the statement.
The man was taken by helicopter to the University of Massachusetts Memorial Medical Center in Worcester with life-threatening injuries.
The State Police statement said troopers have found the tractor trailer and identified the company that owns it, although they did not release the name.
“The driver has tentatively been identified,” State Police spokesman Dustin Fitch said. The crash is under investigation and State Police have not yet determined whether they will charge anybody, he said.
The northbound lane of Interstate 495 near Exit 28 was closed for more than an hour following the crash, but has since been reopened, according to the statement.Todd Feathers can be reached at email@example.com. Follow him on Twitter @ToddFeathers.
