Man is killed by commuter train in Norwood
A young man was struck and killed by a commuter rail train in Norwood this afternoon, officials said.
The accident happened at about 4:30 p.m. on the inbound side of the Franklin Line near Washington and Dean streets, MBTA Transit Police said in a statement. Twenty-five to 30 passengers were on board. The train had originated in Forge Park and was slated to arrive in Boston at about 5:08 p.m.
The person struck was a white male believed to be in his late 20s, Transit Police said.
The passengers were being transferred to shuttle buses, said Rhiannon D’Angelo, a spokeswoman for Massachusetts Bay Commuter Rail, which operates the commuter lines for the Massachusetts Bay Transportation Authority.
Train 737, which was scheduled to leave South Station at 4:45, was canceled because of the incident, D’Angelo said. Commuters should expect delays on Franklin Line trains as well, D’Angelo said.
