Federal prosecutors in R.I. say one person in custody in case of Medfield girl who was missing for 2 1/2 days

Federal prosecutors in Rhode Island said late this afternoon that they had taken a person into custody in the case of a 17-year-old girl from Medfield who went missing for 2 1/2 days.

The person is expected to make an initial appearance in federal court in Rhode Island on Friday. Until then, no further information will be released, Rhode Island US Attorney Peter F. Neronha’s office said in a statement.

Brittany Thompson was found walking down a road this morning in Coventry, R.I., with a man believed to be in his late 20s, who gave police an address in Missouri, Medfield Police Chief Robert Meaney said in a news conference earlier today.
