A 12-year-old Waltham boy riding his bike to school this morning was hit by a dump truck and had to be flown by helicopter to Children’s Hospital for serious lacerations, police said.
The boy, who was not wearing a helmet, was crossing Pine Street at 7:20 a.m. A 2006 Ford dump truck, driven by a 22-year-old Waltham man, was heading east on Pine Street, and collided with the boy, said Waltham police in a statement.
Waltham firefighters and Cataldo Ambulance Service treated the boy on the scene for serious lacerations to his head and right elbow. He was Medflighted to Children’s Hospital, and was alert and conscious throughout the incident, the statement said.
The driver of the dump truck was not injured. Police said the dump truck driver does not appear to be at fault at this time, the statement said.
The incident is under investigation by Waltham police.
