Pittsfield woman is killed, two injured in crash on Pike in Russell
A 37-year-old Pittsfield woman was killed and two other people were injured when a tractor-trailer struck a pickup truck that was stopped in the right travel lane of the Massachusetts Turnpike in Russell, State Police said.
Maria Eugenia Fajardo , who was sitting in the pickup truck, was killed. The operator, Jose Saldana, 30, and another passenger, Marcos Contreas, 37, both of Pittsfield, were injured in the crash, which happened at about 8:05 p.m. Monday.
Fajardo was pronounced dead at the scene; Saldana and Contreas were transported to the Baystate Medical Center in Springfield. No information was immediately available on the nature of their injuries.
The crash is under investigation by State Police and Hampden County prosecutors, police said.
