Jared Remy pleads not guilty in girlfriend’s slaying
WOBURN — Jared Remy, son of well-known Red Sox broadcaster Jerry Remy, pleaded not guilty in Middlesex Superior Court today in the August stabbing death of his girlfriend.
Remy was ordered held without bail. Clerk Magistrate Michael Sullivan set two hearings, one for next Tuesday and one for Oct. 28.
Remy has been charged with murder in the slaying of Jennifer Martel, 27, his girlfriend and the mother of their 4-year-old daughter.
Friends and relatives said Martel had been trying to extricate herself from a relationship with Remy.
He was arraigned in Waltham District Court a day after the slaying. His subsequent indictment by a grand jury moved the case to Superior Court.
His defense attorney, Edward T. Ryan Jr., opposed a prosecution request to release a statement of facts outlining the case, but did not oppose continuing to hold him without bail.
Ryan said that, given that the defense was not arguing for bail, no purpose was served by filing an “inflammatory statement of the case.”
He said that in his meetings with Remy he had found him to be an “emotional mess.”Eric Moskowitz can be reached at firstname.lastname@example.org.
