Police continue search for driver in fatal Middleborough hit-and-run that killed cyclist

Police officials are searching for witnesses who can help identify the driver of a SUV who fled after fatally striking a 58-year-old cyclist in Middleborough Friday evening.

The incident took place on Wood Street, and today, officers are knocking on doors in that neighborhood hoping to speak with anyone with details about the hit-and-run, Middleborough police Officer Robert Rullo said. He added that police are also checking street surveillance tapes and continuing to search for a light-colored SUV with possible front-end damage.

The male victim’s identity is still being withheld pending notification of additional family members, Rullo said.

The victim appeared to be traveling home with his bicycle, Middleborough police detective Simmone Ryder said. He was struck at approximately 7:04 p.m., and Ryder said it is unclear whether he was riding or walking his bicycle when the SUV struck him.
