Roxbury man faces charges of evading fares, resisting arrest at MBTA station
A 32-year-old Roxbury man is to be arraigned today after “piggybacking” through an MBTA fare gate and fleeing from police officers who confronted him, MBTA Transit Police said.
At around 8:45 p.m. Monday, Jesus Huertas evaded fares at the Massachusetts Avenue Orange Line stop by slipping through a gate behind a customer without paying himself, Transit Police said.
Officers who were in the station approached Huertas to issue a citation, and discovered there was a warrant out for his arrest. The warrant was issued from Boston Municipal Court for shoplifting, Transit Police said.
When the officers attempted to arrest Huertas, he pushed them away and fled out the rear gate of the station toward Camden Street, Transit Police said.
Transit Police were able to catch Huertas and place him into custody. He faces a charge of resisting arrest and will also answer for the warrant, Transit Police said.Melissa Hanson can be reached at email@example.com or on Twitter @Melissa__Hanson.
