Two high-powered rifles stolen from FBI SWAT vehicle recovered in Lawrence, officials say
Two rifles stolen from an FBI SWAT team vehicle were recovered by the Lawrence police department sometime between 2 a.m. and 6 a.m. today, according to the Boston office of the FBI.
Special Agent Greg Comcowich, spokesman for the Boston office of the federal law enforcement agency, said both the Colt M16-A1 Rifle and an HS Precision Pro-Series 2000 Sniper Rifle have been returned.
He said the circumstances of the theft and the apparent return of the weapons are under investigation. Currently, he said, all he could confirm is that the weapons have been recovered.
Andover Police Lieutenant John Pathiakis also confirmed the weapons were recovered, but said all further information would be coming from the FBI.
The FBI’s Boston bureau said Thursday that two weapons were stolen from a vehicle parked in a residential neighborhood in Andover some time between Wednesday night and early Thursday.
