Pittsfield woman seriously injured after she was struck in a hit-and-run on the Mass. Turnpike
A 31-year-old Pittsfield woman walking on the Massachusetts Turnpike in Blandford was seriously injured Friday night when she was hit by a driver who fled the scene, according to State Police.
State Police said it appears the woman had exited another vehicle traveling on the highway before she was hit.
Police are requesting the public’s help in identifying the driver who hit the woman, State Police said in a statement.
State Police officials received several calls about a person in dark clothing hitchhiking in the turnpike’s westbound lanes at around 11 p.m., according to the statement.
Patrols responding to the calls found the injured woman lying against a guardrail, just west of the North Road overpass, police said in the statement. Westfield EMS transported her by ambulance to Baystate Medical Center.
No other details were released, including why the woman had gotten out of the vehicle before she was hit and who she had been with.
