Worcester toddler struck by family’s rolling car dies

An 18-month-old Worcester boy knocked to the ground when his family’s car rolled down their sloped driveway Friday afternoon has died, police said in a statement.

The boy, Bennett Roaf, was taken to the University Campus of UMass Memorial Medical Center Friday afternoon and died in the evening, police said.

The boy’s mother, whose name was not released, apparently stopped the car in the family’s driveway on Chester Street around 2:15 p.m., police said. As she opened the back door of the car to get her son, the car rolled backward, knocking the two to the ground and then hitting them.
