Witnesses ran to assist a young woman this morning when a robber snatched her purse at the Charles/MGH MBTA station, officials said.

The woman, 25, had boarded a Red Line train at Alewife Station, and placed her purse between her feet. When the train entered the Charles/MGH Station shortly before 9:30 a.m., a male grabbed her purse and fled the train, Transit Police said.

Witnesses ran after the suspect. They were able to recover the woman’s purse, but the suspect escaped, Transit Police said.

The woman received a minor laceration to her hand, but did not require medical attention, Transit Police said.

Transit Police searched the area and were not able to locate the suspect. Detectives are using surveillance video to assist in their investigation, Transit Police said.
