Human remains found in barrel on Department of Correction grounds in Bridgewater; homicide investigation underway
Partial human remains were found on fire inside a barrel on the grounds of the sprawling Department of Correction complex in Bridgewater, authorities said.
Plymouth District Attorney Timothy J. Cruz said the Bridgewater Fire Department received a report of a fire at 7:51 p.m. Wednesday in the woods off Titicut Street.
When firefighters arrived they found a fire burning in the woods and found the barrel in the fire area “with its contents on fire.”
Cruz said in a press release it appeared to be “partial human remains inside the barrel.”
State Police detectives and the Department of Correction officials are on scene, combing the area for evidence.
Cruz said the chief medical examiner will try to identify the victim and determine the cause of death.
