Death in Rutland fire ruled a homicide

The state medical examiner has ruled the death of a woman found inside her burning Rutland home was a homicide, police said Sunday.

Rutland police identified the woman as 53-year-old Diane Lamarche. Her cause of death remained under investgation Sunday, police said.

Lamarche was in the process of moving out of the house at 2 Joanna Drive on Friday, which was the day the started, Rutland police said.

Her 2004 Toyota Highlander also went missing that day, and, police said, Amador Roman, a 35-year-old homeless man, was arrested and charged with receiving stolen property in connection with the SUV’s disappearnce.

Roman will arraigned Monday in District Court in East Brookfield.

Firefighters responded to a three-alarm fire at the house around 7 a.m. Friday. The fire was deemed suspicious. Lamarche’s death is being investigated by Rutland police and the Worcester County District Attorney's office.
