Man dies after being hit by train in Wareham
A man was hit by a train and died Sunday night in Wareham, police said.
The man was lying in the middle of the train tracks behind 3125 Cranberry Highway when he was hit by a Massachusetts Coastal Railroad passenger train about 7:15 p.m., police said.
The train was traveling westbound at “an apparent slow speed,” Wareham Interim Police Chief Kevin D. Walsh said in a statement.
No passengers were aboard the train at the time of the incident, the statement said.
Police declined to release the victim’s name pending the notification of his family.
The investigation was in the “preliminary stages” Sunday night, said police, who declined to comment further.Matt Rocheleau can be reached at firstname.lastname@example.org.
