Low tests scores land New Bedford charter school on probation

The Massachusetts Board of Elementary and Secondary Education placed a New Bedford charter school on probation this morning because of low state standardized test scores.

The Global Learning Charter Public School, which opened seven years ago, will have a year and a half to boost scores on the Massachusetts Comprehensive Assessment System exams. If the school fails to meet state scoring targets, Mitchell Chester, the state commissioner of elementary and secondary education, said he may consider shutting down the school, which educates about 500 students in grades 5 to 12.
