LinkedIn is getting into the college matchmaking game.

The social network, which connects professionals with potential employers, announced Monday it launched 200 university pages with the goal of expanding to thousands of higher education institutions over the next weeks. The new pages are part of a "strategy to help students at every critical milestone from campus to fulfilling, successful careers," LinkedIn's Christina Allen said in a statement.

University pages include campus updates, notable alumni profiles, and simplified school-wide networking.

LinkedIn said it believes the pages will be especially useful for high school students making college decisions.

To better serve the college community, the social network will extend its membership to high school students on Sept. 12, with the caveat that minors will have different default privacy settings. In the United States, students age 14 and older will have access to LinkedIn; minimum ages in other countries vary.

Here are some tips from LinkedIn on maximizing the pages for your college search:

-Get social. The university pages will features campus updates and discussions. Join in and ask questions.

-Check out the notable alumni profiles. See how they got to where they are and how their time at that university played a role.

-Network. Make contacts at prospective schools and build relationships before you step on campus.
