Ben Affleck joins Hillary Clinton in Washington, D.C.

Our Ben Affleck was in Washington, D.C. with Secretary of State Hillary Clinton on Thursday to discuss the mortality rate of children in the Democratic Republic of Congo. Clinton introduced Affleck — founder of the Eastern Congo Initiative —by saying, “I’ve known this young man for a long time, and I have watched him start his own family with three beautiful children and a wife who makes it all work. I have enjoyed him in person, I’ve enjoyed him on the screen, but I particularly admire his commitment.” Affleck went on to tell the audience about the many children in the Republic who die before their 5th birthday. ABC News quotes him as saying, “I cannot imagine what it would’ve been like driving my wife to the hospital pregnant, about to give birth and thinking to myself, well there’s a 15 percent chance that each of these children won’t live to be five years old.” The Child Survival Call to Action event was held at Georgetown University.
