Kids who attended the Boston Public Library’s Literary Lights for Children tea party on Sunday got to hear from honorees Christopher Paolini, writer of “Eragon” and “Inheritance”; Kevin Hawkes, illustrator of “Westlandia” and “Not Just a Witch”; Mitali Perkins, of “Monsoon Summer” and “Bamboo People”; and Gary Schmidt, of “Lizzie Bright and the Buckminster Boy” and “Okay for Now.” Of course, the youngsters were just as excited to see the afternoon’s other star, a giant dragon made of balloons that hung over the Bates Reading Room. Other guests at the BPL celebration included Associates of the BPL Chair Vivian Spiro, and authors and Associates board members Gregory Maguire, of “Wicked” fame, and Kathryn Lasky, of the “Guardians of Ga’Hoole” series.
