Marstons Mills singer and “American Idol” season nine finalist Siobhan Magnus (inset) made national news Tuesday when The Hollywood Reporter revealed that she’s been tapped to front a ’90s supergroup with members of Third Eye Blind, Everclear, Godsmack, and Candlebox. The act will be called the Doubtful Guest, named for the Edward Gorey book. Magnus (inset), a huge Gorey fan, told us on Tuesday that she actually went to Rick Jones, curator of the Edward Gorey House Museum in Yarmouth Port, and asked: “Do you think Edward would be OK if we did this?” (The answer, of course, was yes.) Magnus said the project started when her producer hooked her up with former Everclear bassist Sammy Hudson, who wound up playing with her during gigs. Hudson is friends with Tommy Stewart, formerly of Godsmack; Peter Klett of Candlebox; and Tony Fredianelli, formerly of Third Eye Blind, all of whom collectively decided that Magnus would be a fitting frontwoman for a supergroup. Magnus swears that even though she was born in 1990, she knows ’90s rock. She has three older siblings and aunts and uncles who introduced her to bands like Smashing Pumpkins and Pearl Jam. “We would drive around listening to Crash Test Dummies and Radiohead,” she said, adding that she looks forward to putting her own spin on the Pumpkins hit “Bullet With Butterfly Wings.” Magnus said the group will post a Kickstarter page where fans can make requests. They plan to debut their act with a showcase of songs in Nashville in February. “It is a bit of an experiment,” she admitted. In the meantime, Magnus is preparing for a New Year’s Eve gig at the International Golf Club & Resort in Bolton. She’s also singing at the Celtics game Jan. 2.
