Robert Parish auctions off last championship ring
He needs the money or Robert Parish isn’t the nostalgic sort. Either way, we are sorry to see that the onetime Celtics center, who won three NBA titles playing alongside Larry Bird and Kevin McHale, is auctioning his 1985-86 NBA Championship ring. The Hall of Famer already auctioned his 1983-84 championship ring for $48,000 and his 1980-81 ring for over $45,000. The top bid for the last ring is $33,657. “Bidding’s been strong,” said Michael Russek, director of operations at Grey Flannel Auctions, which is handling the sale. “The fact that [Parish] is a Top 50 player and this is a championship ring is a rare combination.” The ring, which reads “BOSTON CELTICS WORLD CHAMPIONS” and “PARISH,” has 15 small diamonds on the base and a larger, round-cut diamond at the top. Though his salary paled in comparison to today’s big men, many of whom are inferior players, Parish still made at least $24 million over the course of his NBA career. Attempts to reach the Chief on Wednesday were not successful.
