Plainville author Jeff Kinney — who’s responsible for the best-selling “Diary of a Wimpy Kid” book series — was in New York on Friday for a special screening “Diary of a Wimpy Kid: Dog Days,” which comes out on DVD this week. The event for kids was hosted by the Carmelo Anthony Foundation, which helps young people in underserved communities. Kinney was joined for the screening by one of the film’s stars, Rhode Islander Robert Capron. (Capron also has a role in the upcoming Steve Carell movie, “The Way, Way Back,” which filmed in Wareham last summer.) While in New York, Kinney told the Wall Street Journal about his investment in Plainville real estate. “We still have the same cars as before, we chose to stay in [Plainville] in our same house,” he said. “We purchased the house next door, which is a smaller house than the one we live in, so I could do my business and work there. The other change is that we bought a property in downtown Plainville, an old market that we’re going to replace with a new building with retail and office space. The building is really dilapidated and stood at the center of town for 17 years and falling apart — everyone in town wants it gone.”
