Wahlberg exploring TV series on nerdy Boston students

We’re told Mark Wahlberg is contemplating yet another TV project, and the premise of this one sounds promising. Wahlberg is already at work on three reality shows — he calls them “docu-series” — about the Teamsters, a Dorchester towing company, and one focused on six young Boston women striving to improve themselves. Now he’s exploring an idea that involves local college kids. Specifically, Wahlberg wants to produce a reality show based on “The Big Bang Theory,” the popular CBS sitcom about a group of science geeks. The series would focus on a group of student nerds (and perhaps a few professors) at one of the Boston’s illustrious institutions of higher learning. (Think Cambridge.) The highly rated “Big Bang Theory” centers on the relationships between two physicists employed at the California Institute of Technology, their friends who are also scientists, and a waitress/aspiring actress (played by the lovely Kaley Cuoco ). The inspiration for Wahlberg’s show is a guy named George Zaidan , an MIT grad who writes and hosts an offbeat Vlog called “Pocket Science,” which looks at current scientific research. (The zany Zaidan, who also hosted an entertaining series for The Weather Channel focused on weather and food, will coproduce with Wahlberg.) Meanwhile, the pilot for the show about the Teamsters has been shot and delivered to A&E; “Breaking Boston,” the show about the young women, starts shooting Jan. 14; and Wahlberg and his brother Bob are working out the details of the show about the towing company. Wahlberg’s producing partners are Stephen Levinson of Leverage, Stephanie Drachkovitch of 44 Blue Productions, and Bill Thompson of Bill Thompson Productions Inc., who’s repped by Boston entertainment attorney George Tobia .
