Globe photographer Bill Brett is at work on his next book, “Boston Irish,’’ and among the first images he has shot is this, of author/activist Michael Patrick MacDonald walking amid the ruins of the Old Colony Housing Development. MacDonald’s best-selling book, “All Souls: A Family Story From Southie,” is about growing up in the redbrick bunker, which is being demolished and turned into new townhouse-style buildings. We’re told MacDonald salvaged the door to the apartment where he spent his rough-and-tumble childhood.
