The Langham has started a traditional British afternoon tea service, and British Consul General Susie Kitchens (right) was among the VIPs invited to have a sip. Others included WGBH’s Callie Crossley (center), Harvard Kennedy School chief of staff Sarah Wald (left), the British Society’s Kathy Duffy, British American Council executive director Urszula Wojciechowska, and MIT professor Fiona Murray. The tea service, called “Tiffin at The Langham,” pays homage to the first afternoon tea served in Europe at London’s grand hotel, The Langham, in 1865. . . . In town to promote his book, “How to Love Wine: A Memoir and Manifesto,” New York Times wine critic Eric Asimov was invited to a special wine dinner hosted by UpStairs on the Square sommelier Matthew Reiser. Feasting on chef Susan Regis’s menu were developer Mark Goldweitz, new owner of the Nantucket Wine Festival, along with NWF executive director Nancy Bean, Google strategist Tris Oakley, RoamData’s Rob Stringer, Boston’s Commanderie de Bordeaux head Eric Vogt, and UpStairs on the Square owners Mary-Catherine Deibel and Deborah Hughes. . . . Asimov’s Boston visit also included a stop at Belly wine bar, where owners Liz Vilardi and Nick Zappia hosted an intimate party celebrating the book.
