Grammys are a fun night for Fun., says the band’s Cambridge-based manager Dalton Sim

Dalton Sim says the boys in Fun. had plenty of it at Sunday’s Grammy Awards. “They were sort of in awe of the whole thing,” Sim, the band’s Cambridge-based manager, told us Monday. “I mean, it’s kind of crazy to hear, ‘Elton John wants to stop by and say hello,’ or sitting and chatting with Dave Grohl.” Fun., best known for its ode to drunken youth, “We Are Young,” won the Grammy for song of the year as well as best new artist. It was a first for Sim, a Babson grad who also manages Guster, Dispatch, and State Radio from his office in Porter Square. “I really think it goes back to [Fun.’s] work ethic,” he said. “They have built a real fan base.” And there were others with local ties who went home with Grammys: Berklee Class of ’99 Jeff Bhasker, who’s worked with Kanye West, Alicia Keys, and Beyoncé, shared the Grammy for song of the year for co-writing “We Are Young.” Esperanza Spalding, the 2005 Berklee College of Music grad who famously bested Justin Bieber as best new artist in 2011, added to her trophy collection by picking up awards for best jazz vocal album for “Radio Music Society” and best instrumental arrangement accompanying vocalists for her song “City of Roses.” Cambridge’s Yo-Yo Ma was part of the team of musicians that won best folk album for “The Goat Rodeo Sessions.” The Grammy for best classical instrumental solo went to New England Conservatory instructor Kim Kashkashian for her album “Music for Viola.” A funny note about the Kashkashian win: Apparently some folks on Twitter read Kashkashian’s name too fast and wondered how Kim Kardashian managed to win a Grammy. Kardashian did release a song in 2011. It was called “Jam (Turn It Up).” International Chair of Viola at the Royal College of Music Jennifer Stumm cleared it up quite nicely. “A violist wins a Grammy!” she tweeted. “Kim Kashkashian is so much cooler than Kim Kardashian. So proud of her!”
