Former Sox pitcher Curt Schilling is back from Afghanistan, where he was part of a USO delegation visiting troops. Schill, who’s had a tough year after his video game company, 38 Studios, went bankrupt and he was forced to sell the bloody sock he wore in the ’04 World Series, was joined on the trip by Broncos QB Peyton Manning, NFL receivers Vincent Jackson and Austin Collie, a couple of Dallas Cowboys cheerleaders, and “American Idol” alums Diana DeGarmo and Ace Young. It was the second such trip for Schilling. “Baseball is synonymous with America and our troops are what make this country what it is,” he said afterward. “I’m just as humbled by their service on this second trip as I was on my first.” . . . Meanwhile, BoSox brass John Henry, Tom Werner, Larry Lucchino, and Sam Kennedy hosted their annual Sox partners weekend in Fort Myers, Fla., and guests included Entercom CEO David Field, Giant Glass guy Dennis Drinkwater, former SBLI honcho Bob Sheridan, Ace Ticket’s Jim Holzman, PR poobah George Regan, former Massport boss Tom Kinton, JetBlue CEO David Barger, and Howard Rosenstein of Cumberland Farms.
