The Pixies’ new song has Harvard Square roots

Kim Deal may have left the Pixies, but the band isn’t showing signs of slowing down. The legendary Boston group known for tunes such as “Where Is My Mind” and “Here Comes Your Man” released “Bagboy” on Friday, its first new song since 2004’s “Bam Thwok.” The single was written in a Cambridge Starbucks and later recorded in Wales, according to a press release from the band’s singer and guitarist, Black Francis: “The lyrics, coincidentally, were composed at a Starbucks Coffee in Harvard Square in Cambridge, about a hundred feet from where, 25 years ago, I composed some of the lyrics to an old Pixies song called ‘Break My Body.’ Twenty-five years later, some Starbucks in Harvard Square . . . I thought that was kind of interesting. The music for the song has been around for a few years.”
