It’s back to the future for the Possible Dreams Auction, the annual fund-raiser for Martha’s Vineyard Community Services. Sunday’s auction will be held in Edgartown, where it originated, and it’s been renamed the Art Buchwald Possible Dreams Auction in honor of the sardonic scribe who served as auctioneer for many years. (Buchwald died in 2007.) For the first time, the gavel will be handed to comedian Jimmy Tingle (above), whose humor, like Buchwald’s, has a political edge to it. As always, the auction at the Winnetu Oceanside Resort will include items donated by a few of the island’s famous denizens. Like what? An evening of sushi with Jim Belushi, a fishing trip with A-list angler Captain Buddy Vanderhoop and his frequent fishing buddy, Harvard Law professor Charles Ogletree, front-row seats to see Tony Shalhoub and wife Brooke Adams in a Vineyard Playhouse production of “I Take Your Hand in Mine,” and tea with poet Rose Styron, Pulitzer Prize winner Geraldine Brooks, editor and author Susan Klein, children’s book author Kate Feiffer, and Vineyard poet laureate Rachel Baird.
