Graham Nash is a man of many talents. Not only is he a singer-songwriter — perhaps you’ve heard of his first band, the Hollies, or that other little group, Crosby, Stills & Nash? — he’s also quite a capable photographer. This week, Nash was in town for an exhibit of his photos at Lesley University’s VanDernoot Gallery. He told us he took his first picture at the age of 10, and has been shooting ever since. “I’ve been doing this longer than playing music,” he said. “I’ve always got my camera with me. I do a lot of walking with it and the universe always shows me something magical.” Nash said he was encouraged to exhibit his photographs by his former girlfriend, singer Joni Mitchell . Asked about his style, he said he doesn’t really have one. “I like those surreal moments that disappear in the blink of an eye,” said Nash. “I’m waiting for Elvis to come around the corner on the back of an elephant, and I’ll be there with my camera.” In addition to his photos, Nash’s memoir, “Wild Tales: A Rock & Roll Life,” came out this week and, yes, it lives up to the title. Has Joni read it yet? “The truth is, I don’t know,” he said. “But I’ll tell you this, if she has something to say, she knows how to get a hold of me. She’s a brilliant woman and, of course, incredibly beautiful.”
