Actress Ashley Judd gave the keynote speech at Thursday’s 10th anniversary celebration of the Victim Rights Law Center. At a reception beforehand, Judd schmoozed with a few of the evening’s guests, including actresses Erica McDermott, Melissa McMeekin, and Sue Costello, all of whom appeared in “The Fighter,” the Oscar-nominated biopic of Lowell-bred brawler Micky Ward. Next up for Rockport resident McMeekin is a plum role in director Steven Soderbergh’s Cinemax miniseries “The Knick,” about New York’s Knickerbocker Hospital in the early 20th century. McMeekin told us she’s playing Mary Mallon, the Irish woman better known to most of us as Typhoid Mary, who was the first person in the US identified as an asymptomatic carrier of the pathogen associated with typhoid fever.
