Feminist icon and activist Gloria Steinem was the keynote speaker at a Simmons College forum this week titled “How Women Become Political.” Held at John Hancock Hall in the Back Bay Event Center, the event featured a few women who are political, namely former lieutenant governor Kerry Healey and City Councilor Ayanna Pressley. Also attending were Martha Coakley, the state’s first female attorney general; the state’s first female governor Jane Swift; Suzanne Bump, the first female state auditor; Shannon O’Brien, the first female state treasurer; and Evelyn Murphy, the state’s first female lieutenant governor.
