Don’t blame Ben Affleck for the dismal failure that is his new movie, “Runner Runner.” Starring Affleck and Justin Timberlake — and costing $30 million to make — the movie has been savaged by critics and ignored by everyone else. “Runner Runner” made just $7.7 million in its opening weekend, which is a sure sign that it will be exiting movieplexes earlier than planned. According to The Hollywood Reporter, Affleck tried to save the movie by having his film editor, William Goldenberg, take a whack at it before it was released. (Jeff McEvoy is credited as the editor.) Goldenberg, who won an Oscar for “Argo” and also edited “Gone Baby Gone,” apparently did improve the final product, but clearly not enough.
